Port Sebastian: The Backstory is an introduction, using a selection of my photos going back to early 2012, to some of the characters and the back story prior to Season One.
In the time it took me to develop a clear view of how I wanted to tell my doll stories, I took a couple years’ worth (ok , several years’ worth) of photos and made several slide show videos, making all sorts of mistakes along the way and changing my mind countless times about the way I wanted to go about it. Finally, I decided that:.
- I wanted to attempt to create a web series that is part stop-motion animation and part slide show
- I wanted to do it with voices rather than the mixture of speech bubbles, captioned dialog, and text-to-speech (in one video) that I’d used before, and
- I wanted to tell an ongoing scripted story, with scenes and plots and twists, in soap-opera style, rather than simply “glimpses” into various characters’ lives as I’d done before.
But (cue record-scratch sound here), I had to rethink numbers 1 and 2 for SO many reasons – mainly a lack of the time and resources needed to pull off something like that. I may be able to do that later in life at some point, but for now my direction is to stick with number 3 and to do it in photo-story format.
So, I’m still building sets, writing scripts, and planning, with hopes of debuting Season One by the summer of 2019.

Many of my older photos, slideshows, and videos either told a piece of a story or allowed a glimpse into the backgrounds of some of the characters. Port Sebastian: The Back Story explains how it all began and provides insight into the characters and stories you will see unfolding in Season One.
